Do you have a thorn in your flesh? Are there things that you stumble in? Are there patterns that you find yourself falling into again and again that you aren’t proud of? Are there insecurities that keep showing up in you? There are for me. In 2 Corinthians 12, Paul lets us in to his inner world of constantly crying out to God to deliver him from his ‘thorn in the flesh.’ We don’t know what it was but it was something that constantly plagued Paul and wore him out. I love God’s answer to Paul…..
‘9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.“ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. ‘
I need to hear that today. I need to put my name in that declaration, ‘Brian, My grace is sufficient for you.’ By the way, you might need to put your name in there too.
I had one of those days yesterday where my insecurities and fears came out in frustrations and my attitude got short and I became impatient and frustrated. I then kind of went through the mental process of ‘beating myself up’ for the way I acted. I am so thankful that God doesn’t give me what I deserve but He instead gives me GRACE.
So if you are caught up today and weighed down with regret or find yourself feeling discouraged and defeated as you wrestle with your ‘thorn in the flesh’, know that His grace is STILL sufficient for you today. Receive that into your heart and walk in His ‘mercies that are new every morning.’
