Sometimes in our Christian walk we over-focus on results. God calls us first and foremost to be faithful to Him and His will. He calls us to preach the gospel and to be a witness for Him, but only He can draw someone to salvation. He calls us to serve, love, pray, and work with all our might and at the end of the day to trust the results to Him.
There are countless stories of church planters beginning churches, missionaries pioneering new mission fields, Christians sharing the gospel with non-Christians, or Christian spouses praying for non-Christian spouses where for years and years they don’t get to see any fruit.
I have the privilege of overseeing our Table Groups ministry here at StoneBridge, and as a Table Group leader, there are weeks where it’s just you and God and no one shows up. It’s easy to get frustrated and throw in the towel. But for those who persevere and continue to stay faithful to God, God does bring blessings. Those blessings often don’t arrive on our time table or in the way we think they will, but they do come to those who press on and wait upon Him.
Check out what Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 3, ‘6 My job was to plant the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God, not we, who made it grow. 7 The ones who do the planting or watering aren’t important, but God is important because he is the one who makes the seed grow. 8 The one who plants and the one who waters work as a team with the same purpose. Yet they will be rewarded individually, according to their own hard work. 9 We work together as partners who belong to God. You are God’s field, God’s building — not ours.’
So whatever it is that God has called you to do today, work at it with all your heart for Him. Focus on pleasing Your heavenly Father and not the results. Maybe you are a waterer today. Maybe you are a harvester today. Whichever role you play today, remember that God is the One who ultimately produces life change and eternal results. To Him be the glory!
