I had a mentoring Pastor, whom we all called Doc, who used to say, “Comparisons are odious.” He felt that everyone should be appreciated for their uniqueness, which included Pastor’s and church’s uniquenesses. Sometimes people will come up to me to compliment the music on a particular Sunday and although well meaning, will say how it was better than some other church they attended. I always think about Doc when that happens.

Comparisons do happen, but they are not always positive or helpful. As I try to live a Christ-centered life, I often fall woefully short. Tim Keller writes, “Jesus Christ as only an example will crush you. You’ll never be able to live up to it. But Jesus Christ as the Lamb will save you.”

Christ is my example. But He is not “Only” my example.
He is my Savior, my Redeemer and my Lord.

Trusting Christ,

Christ Is Our Example
For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps, 1 Peter 2:21

Christ is Our Savior
whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:6-7
