This year, I must confess, I have waited to pay my property taxes until January. Which means it’s going to be a pretty thin month. (Don’t worry, we won’t miss any meals.) The reason I share this is that, I also have a deadline on some ministry giving we committed to several months ago. Suffice it to say I was on the computer seeing how “creative” I could be with my spending this month and was getting a little stressed.

I could tell I was not feeling a true joy in giving. I was disappointed in myself. So I took a break. During my break, I was reading on twitter and came across this quote from John Wesley and immediately got my joy back.

He wrote, “Not, how much of my money will I give to God,
but, how much of God’s money will I keep for myself?

Once again I realized how much of God’s money I am keeping for myself and my immediate family. It is a much larger percentage by far than I will be giving away in 2013. It made me once again see how generous and loving our Heavenly Father is. With this perspective my generosity both in giving and in spirit were restored.

We serve a very generous God.

Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. James 1:17
