I took the day off today to rest and catch up on some chores around the house.  As I was working I was listening to Max McClain read Luke Chapter 3.  Max is this incredible orator with a really cool English accent and he supposedly has the entire Bible memorized.  On my iPod I have the audio version of the 4 Gospels with Max reading them.  Sometimes when I listen to a passage read aloud, it stands out to me in a fresh way.  Today this little verse stood out to me in Luke 3:16:

“John answered them all, ‘I baptize you with water, but One more powerful than I will come, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.  He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.’

Our eternal destinies are truly and completely tied to Jesus Christ.  It is truly a wonderul and beautiful day when a person crosses over from death to life and trusts Jesus as Lord, is baptized, and is filled with the Holy Spirit.  On the other hand there is no scarier and more horrific thing than to reject Jesus and to meet Him as judge and the One who baptizes with the unquenchable fires of judgment.  Of all the horrific judgments and catostropic events in the book of Revelation, the event that creates the most fear and horror among the people of the earth is the coming of Jesus Christ on the white horse.  Jesus Christ is truly holy, awesome, majestic, loving, powerful, and on and on.  The only question that truly matters when it’s all said and done is, ‘Who do you say Jesus Christ is?’  Will we know Him as Savior or will we know Him as Judge?

Eternally grateful to the One who gave His life for me!
