I never sing this song without thinking of King David. 

David’s own father when showing his sons to Samuel for who would be anointed as the future king, didn’t even call for David to be a part of the selection process. Only when Samuel asked, are these all your sons, did Jesse remember his youngest son was out tending sheep.

When Samuel saw David’s oldest brother he said, surely this is the one to be anointed. But God spoke to Samuel.  He said, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

The same is true for you and me.  God is concerned with what is going on inside of us. He is building us from the inside out. He is concerned with our character. Do we trust him? Are we content?  He wants to know where our affections are.

I think of Jesus asking Peter, do you love me? Jesus was asking a heart question.  

Paul writes to the Ephesians in chapter 3:16

“I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being”
God wants to strengthen us with His power.  Where?  In our inner being.  God doesn’t slap  a quick coat of paint over a sin sick soul.  God does a total transformation.  

In Ezekiel God said, ” I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”

So with a new heart and new spirit let’s praise Him together….from the inside out.
