Son Light

One of my daily routines is to water my garden. Given the inconsistent rainfall and the brutally hot summer we get to experience here in Houston, I have found that regular watering is essential if you want any of your plants to survive. Over the last several months I have gotten to celebrate the arrival of tomatoes, cucumbers, jalapeno and bell peppers and banana peppers. However, one of my plants I have watered like every day is my eggplant over in the corner of one of my garden beds. For 6 months this plant has received lots of water and good soil and not a single egg plant has been produced. What has been happening is that the plant has been growing freakishly tall. Most eggplants I have seen are about 2 1/2 feet tall where my egg plant is like over 6 feet tall!

What I finally realized was happening was that my eggplant, being over in the corner, was being choked out by a bush and the other plants around it. The poor little guy had to grow abnormally large to finally be tall enough to receive the proper amount of sun light it needed to produce fruit. In 1 John 1 it says, '5 This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth ; 7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.'

As long as my eggplant was living in the darkness and not in the light, it remained fruitless. The same is true for us. We can claim to walk with God and know Him, but if we are living in the darkness or conforming to the pattern of the world's ways, there will be no spiritual fruit in our life. Only when we choose to follow Christ and walk in the light or strive to conform our will to His, will there be any fruit in our life. We absolutely need the Son Light of the Resurrected Christ in our lives on a daily basis. Plants take "light from the sun and turn that light's energy into energy that the plant can use to grow and to stay alive." In the same way when we seek Jesus, choose to abide in Him, trust Him by faith, and follow Him, the light of His presence energizes us and grows us and gives us abundant life. May you walk in the beautiful sunlight of Jesus today and bear fruit for His kingdom!

in Christ,

Brian
