Two enemies we all have in common

I know that many of us relate to sports.
We know the "thrill of victory and the agony of defeat."
Some of us would say, we live and die with our team.

That same language is used in scripture.
All of us struggle with two formidable enemies.........sin and death.

Romans 6:23a
For the wages of sin is death,

There is only one person who can defeat our arch enemies.
He is spoken about in 1 Corinthians 15

“Death has been swallowed up in victory.”
55 “Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?”
56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

John 1:29
Jesus the Lamb of God
29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

You see Easter is Victory Day.
The day we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, is also the day we celebrate the victory He gives us over sin and death. That is a championship party none of us want to miss.

Because Christ lives, so shall we.

This Easter we will sing I Will Rise, here are the lyrics to that powerful song.

There's a peace I've come to know
Though my heart and flesh may fail
There's an anchor for my soul
I can say "It is well"

Jesus has overcome
And the grave is overwhelmed
The victory is won
He is risen from the dead

[Chorus:]
And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain
I will rise on eagles' wings
Before my God fall on my knees
And rise
I will rise

There's a day that's drawing near
When this darkness breaks to light
And the shadows disappear
And my faith shall be my eyes

Jesus has overcome
And the grave is overwhelmed
The victory is won
He is risen from the dead

[Chorus:]
And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain
I will rise on eagles' wings
Before my God fall on my knees
And rise
I will rise

And I hear the voice of many angels sing,
"Worthy is the Lamb"
And I hear the cry of every longing heart,
"Worthy is the Lamb"
[x2]

[Chorus:]
And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain
I will rise on eagles' wings
Before my God fall on my knees
And rise
I will rise

See you at the Victory Celebration,

Joe
