I have used texting a lot to communicate with my wife and children.
I used to text my son from downstairs in our home. He would be just upstairs, but it was a great way to "suggest" it might be nearing a time for lights out..... or time for a friend to go home. It was discreet, direct, but still personal.
It's great being able to send a quick word of love and encouragement to Jane, even while she is in the middle of teaching choral music to 200 middle schoolers inside the loop.
And I still communicate direction and counsel to my son at college, without sabotaging his journey toward independence.
Isn't it great that God the Father sent His living Text over a great distance to speak His love directly into the lives of people?
John 1:14: The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
