I Lift My Hands

Brian and I will soon be introducing a new worship song by Chris Tomlin called "I Lift My Hands".

Most songs about lifting our hands, have to do with joyful praising of God. This song is from a much different place.

This song is about when we are weary. This is lifting our hands in despair. This is a song about asking God to restore our faith.

Some people believe Christians sugar coat the tough times in life. I think sometimes we do. But I believe every human emotion and struggle can be found in the Psalms.

The text comes from Psalms 28:2.

2 Hear my cry for mercy

as I call to you for help,

as I lift up my hands

toward your Most Holy Place.

There's no sugar coating here. Real hurt. Real emotions. Transparency.

Here are the lyrics to I Lift My Hands.

Be still, there is a healer
His love is deeper than the sea
His mercy, it is unfailing
His arms are fortress for the weak

Let faith arise
Let faith arise

I lift my hands to believe again
You are my refuge, You are my strength
As I pour out my heart
These things, I remember
You are faithful, God, forever

Be still, there is a river
That flows from Calvary's tree
A fountain for the thirsty
Pure grace that washes over me

Let faith arise
Let faith arise

I lift my hands to believe again
You are my refuge, You are my strength
As I pour out my heart
These things, I remember
You are faithful, God, forever

So let's lift our hands to God in joy or by faith in the struggle.
