Life Song

True worship involves our whole life, which is incredibly challenging.  I catch myself throughout my day battling God with little thoughts like ‘Oh, not now…’, ‘but I want…’, ‘Oh, God, not that guy…’, ‘I’m tired, how about tomorrow?’, ‘I’m going to pretend that’s not my child right now…’, ‘but she doesn’t deserve me to forgive her…’, ‘but he’ll just spend that money on alcohol…’, ‘surely, someone else will talk to him…’, etc

Casting Crowns wrote a song called life song.  Below are some of the lyrics from the song:

Empty Hands held high
Such Small sacrifice
If not joined with my life
I sing in vain tonight

May the words I say
And the things I do
Make my lifesong sing
Bring a smile to you

This song begs the questions: ‘Are the things I sing in worship consistent with the life I live during the week?’ or ‘do the things I say match the things I do?’

Jesus said in John 14:21a, ‘Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me.’  Does our life song truly communicate love to Jesus?  What specific areas (work, home, private time, marriage, kids, friendships, finances, family, etc) is our life song not lining up with Jesus’ way?

In Christ,

Brian
