Encouragement

Encouragement seems like a recurring theme in Scripture. Perhaps because God knew we would need it and each other.

Jesus knew it would be costly to be His disciple.

Luke 14:27-- And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.

He knew we would be tempted at times to give up.

Luke 18:1-- Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.

Knowing we would need help to run the race well, he gave some the gift of encouragement.

Romans 12:6a, 7b and 8-- We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us [...] if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

While some have a special gift, all of us can be encouragers.

1 Thessalonians 5:11-- Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

Hebrews 3:13-- But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness.

2 Corinthians 13:11-- Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.

I believe a unified and courageous church body will be the result, if we will encourage each other.

Joshua 1:9-- Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

May the God of love and peace be with you,

Joe
