Lead Me to the Cross

Savior I come
Quiet my soul remember
Redemption’s hill
Where Your blood was spilled
For my ransom
Everything I once held dear
I count it all as loss
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/h/hillsong_united/lead_me_to_the_cross.html ]
Lead me to the cross
Where Your love poured out
Bring me to my knees
Lord I lay me down
Rid me of myself
I belong to You
Oh Lead me, lead me to the cross

You were as I
Tempted and tried
Human
The word became flesh
Bore my sin and death
Now you’re risen
Everything I once held dear
I count it all as loss

Lead me to the cross
Where Your love poured out
Bring me to my knees
Lord I lay me down
Rid me of myself
I belong to You
Oh Lead me, lead me to the cross

Today is Good Friday. I remember many times in my faith where I found that to be an interesting name. I mean, the day was filled with so much pain, suffering, betrayal, mockery, shame how could Good ever be used to describe that day?

I m talking about the day our Savior was crucified. As I ve grown up, I ve come to realize the beauty in the crucifixion. We can t have the Resurrection without the crucifixion. We can t have freedom from our sins without the sacrifice of the Lamb. In Matthew 27:50-51 it says, Then Jesus shouted out again, and he released his spirit. At that moment the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. This curtain separated the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place. It symbolized our separation from God. But as Jesus released his spirit, the curtain was torn! No longer did we have to be separated from our Heavenly Father. Our sins were atoned once and for all. That s the beauty of it.

I love the first line of Lead Me to the Cross :

Savior I come, quiet my soul.

Too often I have let the intensity of this day pass me by without remembering what was done for me. Ask God to quiet your soul today and spend some time remembering. I invite you all to join us for our Good Friday service tonight. Come worship by the cross with us as we praise Him for willingly laying down His life so we no longer had to be separated.
