Worship is the first and greatest commandment.
In Luke 10:27, When Jesus is asked, what must I do to inherit eternal life? He answered: “ Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind;”
Through Jesus, an intimate relationship with God is made possible. Worship is the expression of our love for God that fills our heart, thrills our soul, focuses our energies and captivates our highest thoughts and imagination.
Notice Jesus says the word “all.” All your heart, all your soul, all your strength, all your mind.
March Madness NCAA Basketball tournament has just begun. Fans (short for fanatics) are cheering for their teams. Some are real, full on, all the time, live and die-hard fans. Some are bandwagon, love ’em when they’re hot, could care less when they’re not, kind of fans.
We are commanded by Jesus to be die-hard, sold out fans.
Let me take it a little closer to home. I’m married. “All” the time. There’s a lot I could say about that. But suffice it to say as the most important human relationship in my life, my wife deserves my “all” the time, fully devoted love and affection.
Worship should never be reduced to just singing a few cool songs on a Sunday morning, but rather an “all” the time life that brings pleasure to God and fills us with life for eternity.
